The Story

history repeatED

Violent tornadoes rated F4–F5 on the Fujita scale are extremely rare in the Eastern United States. Of the three most powerful tornadoes ever documented in the region, two of them struck the same small town of La Plata, Maryland—a fact that many meteorologists would consider nearly unimaginable.

The November 9, 1926 tornado remains the deadliest natural disaster in Maryland history, while the 2002 tornado became one of the state's costliest. Through compelling firsthand accounts, rare archival photographs, expert weather analysis, period reenactments, and striking contemporary cinematography, Unseen Hooks explores the unpredictable nature of weather, and the power of the human spirit.
